CS2 Weekly Care Package: XP, Drops and What You Can Earn Each Week
Updated · 7 min read
CS2 Weekly Care Package: Prime plus one 5,000 XP rank-up unlocks 4 offers, keep 2. See the October 2026 drop pool, reset time and trade rules.
The CS2 Weekly Care Package is a free reward for Prime players. It unlocks on your first profile rank-up of the weekly cycle, which takes 5,000 XP, and the game then offers four items and lets you pick two. The cycle resets on Wednesday at 1:00 AM UTC.
The package is a small perk, not an income. Most of what it holds is low-value, and the container slot is the part worth checking.
How does the weekly reward work?
Prime status plus one profile rank-up per cycle triggers one package. Only the first rank-up of the week counts, and later rank-ups in the same cycle give no extra drop. There is no carry-over, so a missed week is gone. Prime costs about $15. Without it, no package appears.
What counts as XP?
XP comes from official Valve matchmaking. Community guides tie the trigger to the first rank-up on official Valve servers. The weekly XP bonus refreshes at the reset, so the first rank-up after it is much faster. Valve does not publish the exact bonus multipliers, so treat any per-match XP figure you see as a community measurement.
When does the week reset?
During US daylight time the reset is Tuesday at 6 PM PT, 8 PM CT and 9 PM ET. That converts to Wednesday at 1:00 AM GMT. In winter, under Central Standard Time, it moves to 2:00 AM UTC. As of October 2026 the daylight-time schedule applies, but hover over the XP bar in-game to confirm your own timer.
What is inside a Care Package?
A package shows four offers: usually one case or Terminal, one skin, and two items that are either skins or graffiti. Offers can include weapon cases, Terminals, skins, graffiti and tools, and only two of the four can be redeemed.
| Slot | Usual content | Typical value |
|---|---|---|
| Container | Case or Terminal | Highest, but a case needs a key |
| Skin | Skin from an active collection | Low |
| Third offer | Another skin or graffiti | Low |
| Fourth offer | Mostly graffiti; occasionally a tool such as a Charm Detachment Pack | Lowest |
One tracker describes the second offer as always a skin and the third as a skin or graffiti. Valve publishes no layout or probability table, so the slot pattern is community-observed. Knives and gloves do not drop from the Care Package.
What are Terminals?
A Terminal is a keyless container where you buy a specific skin instead of receiving a random one. An arms dealer presents up to five sequential offers, each with a skin, wear, float, StatTrak status and a Steam Wallet price. Unsealing is free. You spend money only if you accept an offer.
Decline all five offers and the Terminal is gone, and unsealing starts a 72-hour clock. Offers are often priced above the open-market value of the same skin. Early Genesis buyers reported paying far more than the skin sold for days later. Compare each offer with the Steam Community Market before accepting.
The Dead Hand update of March 11, 2026 added the Dead Hand Collection: 17 finishes from community contributors and 22 new gloves as rare special items, reached through the Dead Hand Terminal as a weekly drop. For the glove families, see the CS2 glove types guide.
Which two items should you pick?
You choose any two of the four. A container is usually the best pick on paper, but a skin with a low float or a sought-after pattern can be worth more than a cheap case. Unclaimed offers are lost at the reset.
Tip: Inspect the skin offer before choosing. The CS2 float values guide explains why a few thousandths of float can change a price.
What is in the active drop pool as of October 2026?
The container slot draws from five items: Sealed Dead Hand Terminal, Sealed Genesis Terminal, Kilowatt Case, Revolution Case and Dreams & Nightmares Case. Trackers report that the Recoil Case was removed and replaced by the Dead Hand Terminal. That removal was reportedly not confirmed by Valve.
| Container | Type | Released |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed Dead Hand Terminal | Terminal | March 2026 |
| Sealed Genesis Terminal | Terminal | September 2025 |
| Kilowatt Case | Case | February 2024 |
| Revolution Case | Case | February 2023 |
| Dreams & Nightmares Case | Case | January 2022 |
Drop shares are unofficial. A Steam Community guide lists 20% for each of the five. Other trackers put the Dead Hand Terminal near 32%. Treat both as estimates, since Valve publishes no table.
Which skin collections drop?
Valve’s release notes show the weekly skin list changing twice in recent updates. One update added Ascent, Boreal and Radiant, and removed Bank, Italy, Lake and the original Train. The January 22, 2026 update added Harlequin and Achroma. It also removed Safehouse, Dust 2, 2018 Nuke and 2018 Inferno. Some trackers also list the Genesis Collection among weekly skin sources. Check the current release notes, as this list can change with any update.
What happened to the rare drop pool?
For years there was a hidden chance of about 1% to receive a case from a pool of 35+ retired containers. The Steam Community guide’s change log dates the removal of that pool to December 17, 2025. There was no patch note, and Valve has not confirmed the change.
Are weekly drops worth more than buying cases or skins?
Weekly drops cost nothing beyond Prime, but you control little. Buying a skin gives certainty at full price, and opening a bought case gives variance at a negative expected return.
Active-pool cases are cheap because supply is high. One tracker snapshot from spring 2026 put the Kilowatt Case near $0.22 and Dreams & Nightmares near $1.47. Prices move, so check live listings. Discontinued cases have fixed supply and tend to rise in price.
Cheap does not mean profitable to open. Case odds are fixed: Mil-Spec 79.92%, Restricted 15.98%, Classified 3.20%, Covert 0.64% and a rare special item 0.26%. Opening a case also requires a key, which costs about $2.49. The CS2 rarity tiers and case odds guide and how CS2 cases work cover the maths.
| Route | Upfront cost | What you control | Main downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly Care Package | Prime (about $15 once) | 2 of 4 offers | Mostly low-value items |
| Terminal offer | Free to unseal; offer price if accepted | Accept or decline | Offers can exceed market price |
| Case plus key | Case price plus about $2.49 key | Which case | Fixed odds, negative expected value |
| Buy a skin | Market price | Exact skin and float | No chance element |
To try openings without spending, CSDROP’s free case page explains how free cases work, and the cases page lists every case. Results are provably fair, so you can verify them yourself. CSDROP is for adults only (18+), uses real money, and guarantees no outcome. Set a budget and stop when it is spent.
Key takeaway: Treat the Care Package as a free bonus. A cheap case still carries a negative expected return once you buy a key and open it.
How do the Armory Pass and credits differ from weekly drops?
The weekly drop is free and random, while the Armory Pass is a paid pass for chosen items. The pass costs $16 and gives one credit on activation, and XP earned in play unlocks the rest, up to 40. Only Prime accounts can buy it.
| Feature | Weekly Care Package | Armory Pass |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free with Prime | About $16 per pass |
| Trigger | First rank-up each week | XP progress, about 300 XP per credit |
| Choice | 2 of 4 offered items | Redeem credits for chosen item types |
| Credit costs | Not applicable | Skin 4, charm 3, case 2, sticker 1 |
Roughly 300 XP earns one credit, per one guide. Up to five passes can be active at once. Passes and credits cannot be traded or sold, and credits cannot be bought. The Armory rotates, so check the in-game list.
Do dropped items have trade restrictions?
Terminal purchases and Armory items carry a seven-day restriction, and items received in a trade carry the same seven-day Trade Protection. Accepting a Terminal offer comes with a seven-day trade restriction. Valve’s October 2024 patch notes apply a 7-day re-trade and re-market restriction to items from the in-game store and Armory. Since July 2025, CS2 items received in a trade are Trade Protected for 7 days. You can use them in game, but you cannot trade or sell them.
A sealed Terminal itself is tradable and marketable like other drops, under the usual hold rules. Check the timer on each item in your inventory. See the CS2 trade lock, trade protection and trade hold guide for the differences.
FAQ
What time does the CS2 weekly drop reset?
The reset is Wednesday at 1:00 AM UTC while US daylight time applies, which is Tuesday 6 PM PT, 8 PM CT and 9 PM ET. Under US winter time it shifts to 2:00 AM UTC. Your in-game XP bar timer is the final check.
What happens if I miss a week?
Nothing carries over. A package only appears after a rank-up within the current cycle, and a missed week is not made up later. Rank up once after each reset to collect.
Can I get more than one Care Package per week?
No. Only the first rank-up of the cycle unlocks a package, and extra rank-ups add nothing. Playing more that week does not improve the weekly reward.
Can non-Prime players get weekly drops?
No. Without Prime, the Weekly Care Package is not available. Prime is a one-time upgrade of about $15.
Can a Care Package give me a knife or gloves?
Not directly. Knives and gloves do not drop from the Care Package. The Dead Hand Terminal offers gloves, but you pay the quoted price if you accept an offer.
Is it worth unsealing a Terminal from the Care Package?
Unsealing costs nothing, but accepting an offer is a purchase, and offers can sit above market price. Decline any offer that matches or exceeds the Steam Market price. Because declining all five offers consumes the Terminal, some players sell it sealed instead.
